What Is Happening with AI?

Artificial Intelligence is here, and it isn’t going anywhere.

Over the past six months, I have become obsessed with AI and what it does, wondering who to trust, what is real, whether it will be safe, and whether I should get a certification, invest, or start a business. I’ve also wondered, while here in the Wild West of AI, what companies will eventually merge and create massive AI companies and take over, or what AI tools today will soon disappear as the bigger tech companies take or buy what they built, and then I wonder …who is in their garage right now working on some AI bot or program or super quantum change-the-world-in-9-seconds platform. We will all look in awe and say, “Hmmmm…who knew?”

The amount of AI information stuck in my brain needs to get out. Between the courses, certifications, podcasts, news stories, tracking stocks and semiconductor companies, and trying to find out who makes what tiny parts for GPUs that HAS to be integrated or the RAM enabling efficient storage, retrieval, and manipulation of information and those building LLMs…should I bet on those ones?

So, I have dug in. Into all of it. Not only do I want to share what I have learned, but I also want you to come on this journey with me to navigate the AI landscape, ride this wave, jump in the ship, set sail or light the fuse and blast off in an AI rocket…whatever it takes.

Why Mind The Machine?

This blog is meant for those of us who are not in the morning meeting with Sam Altman, Elon Musk, or Leopold Aschebrenner or training Artificial general intelligence (AGI), the theoretical AI research that attempts to create software with human-like intelligence and the ability to self-teach.

This is for those of us who want to understand it. We are eager to learn how to use it and why, when, and what tool to use. We are not the man behind the curtain. But we want in! We want to understand it as it is today (June 19, 2024) to see it unfold and understand where we have been to have more clarity on where we are going. We want to find an opportunity to build something, buy something, or learn something…maybe we can get clarity around ideas for AI services and companies, or maybe just use it for our own personal advantage and save ourselves some time so we can get back outside and play with our kids, visit parents and friends, learn something new faster, or create something you always dreamed about.

Embrace the unknown – Here is your seat on this rocket ship.

In the next post, I will quickly review Neural Networks and their origins, along with descriptions of several AI tools, their functions, current costs, and comparisons with similar tools.
